How To Clear Out Your Closet

January 18th, 2012

Clear Out Your Closet For Spring.

I have recently learned how amazing it is to have a clear wardrobe. It is so much easier to get dressed in the morning when you can see what clothes you have in your closet. I have been drowning in clutter for too long. So whether you are studying because you want a criminal justice job. or you want to go into fashion, here is a quick guide.

Go through your wardrobe and try everything on. It can be quite overwhelming bringing everything out at once, so maybe do a drawer at a time. Everything that doesn’t fit, put in one pile. Be realistic about this pile. Are you going to lose weight? Well, you might, but why not sell this pile of clothing and then buy yourself a new wardrobe when you reach your target weight? Then put everything else into three other piles.

Keep

Don’t know

Charity shop/Ebay/Swap shop .

Get ride of stuff that doesn’t suit you, is out of fashion, in bad condition, hasn’t been worn in 12 months, has bad memories attached or that you just don’t love anymore.

Things that need dry cleaning should only be in your wardrobe if you really love them or have a lot of money.

Put things that need alterations, mending or dry cleaned to the side. As well as shoes that need re-soled. Do these as soon as possible.

Everything in the keep pile should be put back in the closet. Arrange the clothes by type, then color. Everything in the Get ride pile should then be put in another three piles (phew!) sell, give away, and recycle. Sell anything you think you can on Ebay or to a designer outlet, give away the stuff that you are not selling to charity (get gift aid so you can claim it against your tax. You can be more generous when you are older, right now you are a poor student.) All of the other stuff can be recycled, don’t just throw it away. There are textile charities that can recycle your old clothes. Or do a swap shop with your friends.

Your maybe pile might be hard. There are a few things you can do; ask a friend or a partner or put it in a bag and hide it away, if you don’t miss it after a few months then throw it out.

Some good storage options are:

Hooks.

Shoe organizer than can hang up or stand alone.

The cool things that make your bed go higher that I found out about on this blog.

Other storage options are available in this blog. Good luck!

The Best Tights For Winter 2012

January 12th, 2012

When you are a student on a tight budget  it can be hard to look good on little money. One of the best ways to update your look on a budget is to invest in some tights. There are some really good ones. If you want to save even more money, go to Ebay or Amazon.

I have scourged the internet so you don’t have to. Here are some top tights.

House of Holland for Pretty Polly super suspender tights. These tights have become famous in their own right. They have been seen on lots of celebrities, including Rihanna. They are a good look, but maybe not for dinner with your grandparents! They are £12 from Asos.

Funky cat tights that are only £8.95 from this site

What’s more fun than cat tights? They are even Italian made, which usually equals good quality. I think they are cute. People would certainly remember you.

Patterned tights are always a good look. These ones are  £7.74 for large fishnets or small ones. Fishnet tights are classics. I don’t care what anyone says. They rock. They are the right mix of classy and sexy.

There are also these Spider man style ones.

Vogue has picked their favorites too.

Make sure you get tights that fit properly. Few things are more annoying than having to pull your tights up all day. It also really hurts when they cut into you.

You may balk at brightly coloured tights, but the time to experiment is when you are young. If you cannot experiment at college, when can you? When I was a student I wore bright red tights, and blue ones too.

You also can’t go wrong with Wolford tights. They are well made but they are quite pricey. They will last for years though. Think cost per wear. My mother always said when you buy cheap you buy expensive; and she was right. It’s better to buy a high quality thing that will last a long time than a cheap pair of tights from Primark that last a month if you are lucky.

Tanning Beds

January 4th, 2012

I know it’s bad for you but I absolutely love tanning. Tanning in the sun or in tanning beds. They say it’s absolutely horrible for you, so I stopped sitting out on my back deck for hours, roasting in the sun, but I still indulge from time to time. Of course, in moderation.

I recently started going to a new tanning salon, Sun Magic. There is an esthetician that works there and it had me wondering how someone how has a career in fabulous, healthy beauty could work at a Tanning Salon. She informed me that tanning in moderation (and no excessively) has benefits to your skin because of the Vitamin D that it offers. As long as you continue to moisturize and take care of your skin, it really isn’t that bad at all.
tan
Of course, if you’re tanning like the cast from Jersey Shore, you have problems.

Honestly, I don’t think there is anything that could stop me from tanning. I have tried tanning lotions and even spray tanning from Luminess Air but nothing is comparable to a real tan from UV. I do enjoy lotions and sprays but it is so hard to put the stuff on without streaking. For me, it’s damn near impossible to apply without streaking…. and if you do manage to put it on evenly, the way it comes off is gross. It leaves you blotchy. Maybe I just have bad luck with it, but I don’t think the results are even close to being similar.

So tanning is okay. Don’t quote me on that! Let me rephrase myself. Tanning from UV light is okay, as long as you do it sparingly and rehydrate your skin with a good moisturizers.

Am I going to stop tanning in tanning beds? Absolutely not. Do I ever wear sunscreen in the sun… absolutely not. Now there’s a problem just waiting to happen. I should probably start wearing sunscreen out in the sun, eh?

Bieber Polish

December 29th, 2011

Call me crazy but I am in absolute love with the JUSTIN BIEBER nail polish. Shocked, aren’t you? Okay, well I’ll be honest here. I have the Bieber Fever. He’s Canadian, adorable and talented. Being as I am Canadian, I find is absolutely necessary to support a fellow citizen and as I said, it helps that he’s a cutie pa-tootie. So I was walking through Shoppers Drugmart which is a Canadian drugstore and I saw his beautiful, pearly whites beaming at me. How could I walk past that pretty face of his and not purchase his products?

The nail polish set of his that I got was the OMB! and I seriously expected it to suck. I know, how horrible of me, but I actually did, or at the very least I expected it to be similar to every other nail polish out there…. but again, the Bieber Fever struck me again. Hey! I’m not hating on the Biebs for his nail polish and perfume line because that is the smartest marketing idea. I mean, why would he make a product for dudes that obviously won’t wear it? They created a product for his fans and people that would buy it, just because his name or face is on it. I mean, even I fell victim to it! Smart marketing, that’s all I have to say. His accountant‘s work load would have definitely increased, as did the numbers on the cheques he receives. Enough said, eh?

Seriously, though. When I put the first stroke of polish on my nail, I fell in love. Not because it was Justin Bieber, but because the polish was fabulous! Vibrant, unique and rich! It also doesn’t chip near as much/often as every other drug store polish that you can buy. Everyone can hate on me for wearing the Bieber nail polish but I’ll be that girl walking around with a fabulous set of nails on me.

Just sayin’

You’re missing out. This polish is bomb. It is also OPI, which is an amazing brand on it’s own.

Fake Lashes

December 21st, 2011

Call me crazy, but I absolutely love fake eye lashes. I love the look of them, I love the feel of them and I love how absolutely easy they are. When I am in a rush out the door for a meeting, or even having to go on webcam for an online course, I immediately go for the false eye lashes. It takes two seconds to put them on, and it can enhance your whole entire look with next to no effort. If you’re like me and can’t crawl out of bed in the morning for the life of you, this is an amazing alternative to looking like you took the time to get ready, when in reality, you were sleeping 2 minutes ago.

I have been trying this new brand called Daisy’s Beauty. They have a million, gazillion lashes, all with different looks and styles. There are some for every day wear, and some for that glamourus party you are attending for the new year! The only thing is, you need to get lash glue and this is where knowing what is, and isn’t good, matters.

Lashes are great, regardless. The glue is what is important because you do not want to be talking to that cute guy you’ve been googling over and look down to find your eye lash on the tip of your nose, or in your beer. Can you imagine? One word… embarrassing!

I personally really enjoy the Revlon lash glue. It isn’t extremely harsh, so your actual lashes don’t get ripped out at the nights end. It is very light, yet holds! I definitely suggest shopping around and finding out what you like best though. If all else fails, or you’re in a rush – grab the Revlon stuff. It really is awesome.

Aside from making sure the lashes stick, you must know what lashes are good for day and night. Extremely long, thick ones are perfect for a party or a club. However, if you rock these at the office, you’re going to look a little odd. This can also give you a bad impression. Save the big, thick, glamourus ones for parties and stick with the light lashes for every day wear. They are definitely more natural and people will probably not even know that you are wearing them!

At the end of the day, lashes are a great alternative and they can actually save you a lot of money. Instead of going through tubes and tubes of mascara, buy some lashes and reuse them!

Remember, if you are wearing lashes, rock that confidence. If you do not have the confidence, you will never be able to pull off any look – especially not lashes.

Acne A’Hoy

December 14th, 2011

I seriously have a huge problem. Well, my face has a huge problem. Actually, my face is a huge problem. My face has recently became a farm of pimples. Yes, I’m embarrassed to admit this… and that it  actually isn’t very recent problem. It’s been about two months where you can honestly play connect the dot on my face and it’d be a big giant blob covering the whole entire thing.

It’s bad.

It’s really bad.

Being the little fashionista diva that I am, what in the world am I doing with this crap on my face and how have I not gotten rid of it…?!

I know, I’m just as rattled. I have no idea.

I have tried so many products and I think I finally found one that seems to be working, but not as fast as I wish it would, but the progress is definitely more than I have had with any other product as of recently. And may I just add that I have never been the pimple girl? I would get maybe one pimple at a time… and now I have an explosion.  I kid you not, I feel like I need to learn how to become an FBI agent to figure out what in the world is going on with my purdy face and complexion! It is a crime, it really, truly, honestly, brutally is!

I’m depressed.
ˈpa-lən-ˌdrōm

Okay, enough of me being a complete dramatic basket case! The product that I have been using is the Aveeno Face Wash. It doesn’t seem to dry out my face as do most daily washes, and it really seems to bring the dirt and junk from my pores up and out.

Now don’t get me wrong. This product sure as heck hasn’t be a miracle worker, and apparently that’s what I need right now! It has cleared up my skin more than any other products that I have tried, but you’d still look at my face and say

PIMPLES!

Geez! This totally sucks. Do you guys have any recommendations?!

Please.

I’m begging.

Do you know what you’re talking about?

December 7th, 2011

I will never forget the day when I was in Grade 6 and my elementary school teacher, who was a total tom-boy not to add, started talking to us girls about painting our nails. Let me start off by saying, no, I do not have a problem with a tom-boy or anything like that, but just wait until the end of the story to see where I’m going with this.

Ombre manicure
A complete athletic, phys-ed teaching, baggy gym clothes school teacher was talking to me, a total diva, about painting nails. Okay, no big deal, right? Well, she went on to tell me about her friend who got married and took her nail polish off only to find out that her nails were stained. Sounds like a silly story? Well when you’re in grade 6, anything is interesting! This teacher of mine continued on to tell me how you should always give your nails a rest in between paint jobs and never paint them dark colours.

I listened to this advice for a while… until I realized that it was completely ridiculous!

Firstly, when you do your nails (correctly) you aren’t really damaging your nails, but rather protecting them. This is what a base coat is for.

Secondly, nail colours are based on trends and taste… not the possibility of it staining your nails. I mean, this is what a new paint job would be for, right? Seriously, the other day my old nail polish came off, my nails were a tinge of blue so I pained them pink. Bada Boom! Bada Bing! Done and taken care of.

Thirdly, why would you be taking off your nail polish to not wear any on your wedding day?

It really made no sense to me. Even if your nails were stained, they would grow out?

I’m a little bitter about this conversation. I know it was a few years ago, but it burned a hole in my little fashionista heart, just knowing that wrong information is being told to people each and every day.

I know I sound a little dramatic and bitter, but I think it’s time for this teacher to learn about how to become a fashion designer or something along the lines of fashion and beauty before she preaches incorrect information. I always say, take advice from people that know what they’re talking about.

Just sayin’

Winter Fashion Doesn’t Have To Be Frumpy

December 2nd, 2011

Winter is fast approaching, well for most of us… depending on where you go to school, and I have a pet peeve that I need to share with you guys. It is a beauty pet peeve. No such thing? You just wait.

Winter is a cold, chilly season and a lot of people let themselves go during this time of year. I have no idea why! I personally love fashion in the Fall and Winter. It definitely has to be my favourite season. I know it’s cold, and those track pants are so comfy and warm… but really? There is absolutely no curves or benefits to anyone wearing their pajamas, because essentially that’s what they are, outside to their classes, or work. I mean, sure it’s okay to wear them when you’re inside and lounging around studying or doing your online college courses, but if you are not by yourself being lazy in your own house, don’t sell yourself out!

Take a look around! Winter fashion is awesome and totally adorable! I love hoodies and scarves! Mittens and long sleeves. There’s something so comforting about it. Yes, comforting! Just because you aren’t wearing your Dad‘s ragged alumni hoody and track pants doesn’t mean you’re going to be uncomfortable.

Female hoodies are almost always made and styled for a woman’s body. I love slipping into my boyfriends big hoodies too on a cold day, but why not look absolutely adorable while rocking a hoody? Try out a FEMALE hoody. Trust me… it’s just as warm and comforting.

Now as for the track pants. I love them too, not ‘going to lie! I have them on right now… but I am sitting in the comfort of my own home with no one around. I’m allowed! Now if you refuse to wear denim or anything other than that fluffy material that makes track pants, an amazing alternative is tights! No, not nylons or leotards. Tights… also known as leggings. Comfy and warm! Perfect and cute for the winter season.

So go ahead and still be comfy this season, but don’t lower your style standards and settle for a look that is frumpy. Switch it up!

What’s Your Deal?

November 23rd, 2011

Black Friday is right around the corner! Who’s excited? I am… HOLLER!

Seriously, I am so exciting! This is the best time of year for all my fellow fashionista‘s out there. It is a great time to get all the stuff you need to revamp your wardrobe or just add some extra stuff to it. Or even makeup! Ooh, I love new makeup!

What’s better than Black Friday? CYBER MONDAY! Okay, well honestly, I wouldn’t call it cyber Monday, because online stores seem to have deals on already for “cyber Monday”. So it is exactly like Black Friday, only the deals are online and you get to avoid the crowds… if that’s not your thing. It’s totally mine though, I can’t wait! But even though I’ll be rampaging through stores, I will definitely take the time to do some online shopping too!

Deals, deals, deals! Black Friday at Westfield San Francisco Centre 2009

It’s a great time of year, as I said! Who doesn’t love some amazing fashion deals? Well heck, not even just fashion! You can get deals for everything!!

If you’re into art, check out some home decor stores. If you’re curious to know how to become an FBI agent, check out some book stores. If you like video games, check out a electronic store. You can get it all and it’s all on sale! HOORAY!

I’m a little excited, can’t you tell?

I really want to focus on getting new makeup and fashion accessories. I recently went on a shopping haul for new clothing so I don’t need to really do clothes shopping, but who am I kidding… you know I will! I also want to get some movies, games for my DS and heck… anything else I can fine will be just fabulous!

I know some people hate Black Friday and all the craze, so don’t worry! As I said, you can avoid the riots and rampages by just doing your shopping online and you can even get started now!

What do you plan on scoping out for your BLACK FRIDAY deals?

Easy Way To Spruce

November 16th, 2011

The easiest way to spruce up your fashion is with some funky colour and amazing accessories. Especially in the winter, everything seems so much darker, duller and boring. It sucks, right? Our moods generally tend to come out within our outfits of choice, so if we feel horrible about the horrible weather, it’s safe to assume that we aren’t necessarily going to look the chirpiest.
A Green Leather Belt With A Grainy Finish, LC1992_13

I am bad for getting sucked into the winter, anti-fashion monster. You can almost always catch me wearing Uggs, track pants and a big sweater in the winter. Seriously, it’s bad. I am comfortable and I love this look – but everyday? Seriously? Yeah, I know! It’s time that I got a hold of myself.

With that said, I went on an amazing shopping frenzy haul with my bestest and was determined to get non-expensive, smaller items to take my outfit from the grim reaper to Santa’s favourite elf.

…Don’t ask. I feel chipper already!

Keep in mind how I said non-expensive and smaller items. Anyone can go out and buy a bright yellow shirt and say, TADA! However, this isn’t exactly what I was aiming at. One, I don’t have the finances to go out and buy a bunch of funky colours of clothing, and accessories tend to be much smaller. Plus, I don’t have the room in my closet for any more clothes.
C10 - NASSAU BELT
The best solution for your blah mood that is showing in your outfits is to accessorize, as I said earlier. Belts are amazing for this! You can get colourful belts, big belts, small belts, hip belts, waist belts, sparkly and spikey. You can find everything that you could possible imagine within belts, whether you’re looking for something to show off your unicorn-love, or  something serious for a paralegal career.

Jewelry is also a great way to spruce up an outfit, but by far the easiest and most inexpensive way is to grab some belts and there you have it!

Slipper Fashion

November 9th, 2011

Fall is about to end and Winter is just around the corner! If you’re anything like me, you hate socks. Even typing the word socks drives me insane. It is very possible that I should go see someone with a degree is psychology, but never mind that right now – socks suck. Although I hate socks, I love slippers. Maybe it’s because their bigger and looser? Who knows! Today we are discussing slipper fashion! Wooow! Fun, right?

Firstly, there is of course, basic slippers which generally fall into the grandma category. These slippers are usually plain, dull and not a personally favourite of mine. They are there to warm your feet and that’s about all they do. I guess that’s what a slipper is for anyway, but I prefer mine to look super cute!

Boot Slippers are my absolute favourite. I love them, they are comfy and you don’t have to worry about them slipping off with every step. However, they make your feet stinky and no, you don’t need have a prior diagnosis of stinky feet syndrome…. this is inevitable. Your feet will stink, but they’re cute as hell, right?

Childish Slippers are intended for the younger generations, but they often have the most fun designs, often detailed with popular cartoons and characters. They can be fun.

Designer Slippers. Well, I love designer stuff, but designer slippers sounds so absurd to me. Why spend so much money on something no one will ever see unless they come over to your home and if they are coming to your home, you’re probably close enough with them that they don’t care what you’re wearing anyway. Secondly, if you have a dog… those slippers are going to be dinner!

Sock Slippers… ew I said socks again. If you like socks… these are for you.

Moccasins are the comfiest of all comfy things that could go on your feet. These are so amazing and keep your feet toasty warm! If you want to fall in love with a pair of slippers, this is your best bet. However, if you are going to get Moccasins, you have get them authentic ones to get the full effect and these tend to be a bit pricier.

MILLION LASHES

November 3rd, 2011

Are you obsessed with your eyelashes? I sure am and I need them big, bold, long and full of volume before I leave the house. Eyes are such an important feature on your face and the easiest way to enhance your beauty is to coat your lashes with some mascara. If you’re looking for a inexpensive mascara that is available worldwide, you’re going to want to continue reading this post. Put down those papers that you’re studying on how to become a software engineer, or whatever it may be that you’re studying and pay attention, because this, you’re not going to want to miss.

Lashes I have always love L’oreal’s voluminous mascara. Then, I saw L’Oreal’s Million Lashes and I thought, how could I not try this Million mascara? A better, improved version of the mascara that I already think is the absolute best? You can’t really go wrong. Plus, the mascara can be purchased from any drugstore which means (usually) inexpensive! I get a lot of make up products from drugstores and some brands that you can expect to see in each are L’Oreal, Rimmel, Covergirl and Maybelline. They’re the most popular of drugstore brands amongst all age groups.

This mascara lengthens your lashes beyond belief. I would even go to say that it adds about half an inch in length for me. Plus, if you curl your eye lashes – they’ll appear a million times longer. A lot of mascaras clump or separate, and somethings even both – but not this stuff. Definitely award-winning! I trust this mascara with my life. I know, a little dramatic – but seriously. It’s amazing.

My favourite drugstore brand is Covergirl. It’s been around as long as I can remember and they are always up to par with the latest trends. I love Covergirl products so much that people are surprised to find out that my favourite mascara isn’t from them, but L’Oreal instead. I have tried several different mascaras, from all brands including Covergirl, but I always go back to L’Oreal’s Voluminous – well now, Million.

The tube is a shimmery gold and the stuff inside is sure to make you feel like a million bucks! I just noticed how many times I wrote the word “million” in this post. I guess this is how they got their product name? Makes sense, right?

Seat Belt Bag

October 26th, 2011

You probably read my title of this post and are now saying, “Whaaaaaaaaaaat?!”. Yes, this post is about seat belt bags. No, I’m not talking about a bag that you attach to your seat belt to hold all of your goodies while you’re driving. I’m talking about an Eco-Friendly company that has created some fabulous bags from recycled seat belts, and I couldn’t resist but purchase some for myself.

MaggieBags was created by the average person. Nope, they weren’t tree planters or even anything in relation to fashion merchandising careers.  The creators of MaggieBags are just everyday people, eager to be Eco-friendly and take all that high quality seat belts that often sit in junkyards and recycle and reuse it. You can only imagine how much would be sitting in the junk yard and what else would you use it for? Well, I have no idea and that’s why I’m no inventor! I’ll leave it up to MaggieBags.

MaggieBags creates absolutely gorgeous and unique fashion bags, totes, accessories and even cosmetic cases.  The quality is absolutely great! You can only imagine how durable these bags are considering that they are made out of material that is meant to save your life. If that isn’t convincing enough, I don’t know what is.

When I first came across this company, I couldn’t come up with a reason to not try out their products and needless to say, I am very happy that I decided to get some items. I now have the tote, laptop bag, cosmetic bag (small and large) and a key chain and belt. I love them, and I know everyone else will – which is why I am doing this post.

If you’re going to buy something anyway, why not invest in making a difference in the world at the same time? These bags are stylish, durable and versatile while recycling and reusing.

Why wouldn’t you make a difference with your fashion purchases?

Black Finger Nails

October 21st, 2011

Painting your finger nails black can seem a little odd, but it has been really trendy for the past few seasons. Surprisingly, it’s actually chic and feminine. Who would have thought, right? Black finger nails definitely don’t scream anything other then goth. FALSE! Get rid of that silly stereotype, actually get rid of all stereotypes because they are all absolutely ridiculous. Black fingers nails are in and why not a better time to try it out then Halloween?! Trust a girl who knows what she’s talking about! ;)

Night out

You can always add a funky design or hints of other colours if you’re not into the complete black look, but I definitely suggest that you give the solid black a shot. There are two simple rules that you have to follow to make sure that you are pulling off the awesome-bitch look, instead of the witch… or even worse, looking like you’ve been digging around in dirt like the secret environmental engineer in you.  Hey! Loving Mother Theresa and going green is super sexy – so all the power to you, but I’m sure we can all agree that having the environment literally under your nails isn’t a good look.

365: 55 - 24.02.09

The perfect length is going to make or break the black nail polish look. Sure, we all love having long nails, but what about all those times we break one and need to trim them all down? For me, all my nails are cracking and breaking as I recently had gel nails (they ruin your nails) so I decided that now would be the perfect time to cut my fingernails down to help repair them, and paint them black. Personally, I love the black nail look – but hate it on long finger nails. It seriously reminds me of a witch. Sure, it’s Halloween – but really?

Lastly, you need to have a steady hand. If you know this isn’t in you, ask a friend or go to a salon. The worst look is when you have nail polish all over your cuticle and finger nail. Sometimes you can get away with it if it’s a light colour, but black is sure to stand out. If you don’t have someone to do it for you, or your student budget simply doesn’t allow a salon visit, dip a Q-Tip into some nail polish remover once you are done painting your nails and fix up your mistakes!

And there you have it! The latest, greatest, chicest nail colour trend. Plus, you get a chance to let your nails repair as you cut them right down. It’s a win, win!

Easy Halloween Makeup

October 19th, 2011

Don’t lie… I know you have facebook. I know you facecreep.

Well, so do I! I am a proud, professional face-creeper! I’m kidding, but I do have facebook and as much as I hate it – I love it. I wanted to get my facebook profile page all in the spirit of Halloween, but I’m not doing anything for Halloween this year. And even if I do end up

doing so, pictures will only be added after October 31th.

I’m also not one for wasting my makeup. That stuff isn’t cheap!! So I am surely not going to put Halloween makeup all over my face and get dressed up simply to put pictures up prior to Halloween – just to be in the Halloween spirit. Whew! Say that 5 times fast.

Being the genius that I am, I came up with an easy, cost-free (sometimes) solution!

Drum roll please…

Photo editing programs!  And nope! I’m not talking about the expensive photo editing software like Photoshop or Corel! This stuff is absolutely free (sometimes) and you don’t even need talent! Which is amazing because if you’re anything like me, you are a far ways away from going to any of the best online universities for photography or anything computer technology related. It’s Picnik!

I love this program, it is so easy and free(sometimes). I know you’re wondering why I keep saying sometimes. You can use almost EVERYTHING in the program completely free, but for an extra $20 a year – you get access to some extra, super cool programs!!

So I took it upon myself to create some spooky pictures for my facebook!

Makeup Contacts

October 18th, 2011

One of my favourite ways to change my look is with coloured contacts. It’s quick, unique and it’s not something that you have to make time to go speak with a  pharmacy technician about. There are so many different price ranges, styles and looks that you can get. I remember when Twilight came out, everyone was getting those kind of lenses.

However, I personally like the more natural look, even if it is pink contacts. It freaks me out when people are wearing creepy cat eyes, or flame ones. Plus, I think it’s tacky. I don’t put Halloween makeup on my face on a daily basis, so why would I wear Halloween contacts, because essentially that’s what those type of lenses are for. You wear makeup to enhance your natural beauty so I like to get lenses that naturally enhance my bright green eyes, or that make them look larger.

As I said, there are tons of different price ranges. You can get $100 ones, as well as $20. Since we are talking about a product that goes on our eyeball, I highly suggest doing research on the company you are purchasing from and the materials and ingredients that they use.

My all time favourite company to purchase more naturally looking contacts from is Pinky Paradise. I just recently got two new coloured contacts from them and I love them. They’re comfortable, affordable and come with cute little animal, colour-coded cases. Wow – say that 5 times fast.

A more prestigious company to get coloured contacts from is Clearly Contacts. They also specialize in actual prescription contact lenses and glasses so they definitely know what they are talking about when it comes to safety for your eye ball. Personally, I’d rather purchase from a company that does ALL eye care, as opposed to just Halloween ones. I don’t need any colouring dye staining my eye so I constantly see in purple, blue or rainbow.

Some Halloween sites you can check out are; FourEyez, YouKnowIt and Fashion Contact Lenses. But as I said before, I highly recommend sticking to a prestigious company that knows what they are talking about.

All in all, these things can be completely crazy and fun. A simply way to enhance your look, or totally change it for a period of time!

October 13th, 2011

I am an all around shopping lover. Honestly, I enjoy shopping for groceries! As long as I am spending, I am happy! My guilty pleasure is online shopping, specifically small online boutiques. I die for these and this is why my credit cards are maxed out. Just kidding! I hope my financial analyst isn’t reading this! She would say, “ooooh! So that’s where all your money is going!!” or “Haute Styles isn’t a medical store like you said it was.. is it?” and I would respond with, “…oopsie!”

Hey! A girl’s ‘gotta do what a girl’s ‘gotta do.

However, I HAVE A REBUTAL! I shop online because it is (usually) much cheaper then going to a shopping center! And I know you’re going to say, “but you have to pay shipping” and this is true… but (there’s always a but, eh?) most sites will offer free shipping if you spend over X amount of dollars, which is usually like 50 bucks! Let’s be honest here, $50 in the shopping world doesn’t get you much now a days, so you are almost always bound to get free shipping. Plus, you get the deals and the clearances and discount codes. It really is a magnificent way to save money. I swear! The only bad thing is that I am Canadian, so shipping tends to take longer… but I got the deallllllllllls!

So without further ado, I am going to share with you where I spend most of my online time… money.

My favourite is definitely Hautelook. I have purchased so many things from this site and have ultimately saved so much money. You can get everything; clothing, shoes, accessories, makeup, beauty, vacations, toys, decor… the list goes on. It’s super fun too! Every day at 11 am eastern standard time, they start new deals with new brands.

I also love JordanasBoutique. I’m pretty sure I own almost everything on the site. The second something new gets added, you can bet your bottom that it’s already charged to my credit card!

GreatGlam has some good stuff, but the quality isn’t always the best – but inexpensive to say the least and a very fun, unique place to shop!

I also love the unique, cozy products that Vaute Couture offers. Anything with the word couture in it, is usually chic and sassy – but don’t quote me on that.

Some other really amazing ways to find good online shops is by doing Youtube search of fashion gurus. A lot of them spend their time shopping online and trying out new companies! It’s a great way to hear what’s the latest and greatest!

How To Wear Orange

October 11th, 2011

Orange is another absolutely gorgeous colour that can be completely horrendous if worn incorrectly. Since it is one of the top colour trends for fall 2011, I figure now would be the perfect time to give an online course on “HOW TO WEAR ORANGE”.  I mean, who wants to look like Garfield, an Oompa Loompa or an overly tanned Jersey Shore cast member? Zinnnng! I know I don’t and I surely don’t want to see my fellow fashion lovers walking around like a mess either. We don’t need anymore of that in the world. Oooh, zinnnnnnng again! Sorry Jersey Shore, not a fan!

Just like a lot of fashion rules with bold, unique and rare colours – proceed with caution. Ha! Get it… caution…. construction guys hold caution signs… they wear orange vests…ha…ha? No? Okay, enough of my horrible jokes. When in doubt, only put in a small dose. Less is more, right? Hints of orange in your outfit is going to look a lot better then a full, head to toe look. Of course, I have provided some outfits for you to look over and see what I mean. Again, always remember contrast! Bright, bold and crazy colours look best when they POP!  However… be careful with orange and black. I know it is Halloween season and everything, but really?

Here is an outfit with the main colour being orange. Now, there is obviously a lot going on in this outfit. Because the colour is so loud and out there, you want to keep everything else simple, simple, simple! As you can see, I really focused on contrast with the orange and pink. To avoid using too much orange, or too much pink – I mixed and matched and combined until the outfit looked just right! You will also notice that the only jewelry is the bangles. The neck already has so much going on, and the outfit is pretty full, so I avoided earrings and a necklace and anything “too much”. What do you think?

As for the outfit with only a hint of orange in it, I really relied on the accessories to pull everything together. As you can see, the beige on the shoe looks fabulous with the green and brown that is in the shirt… it’s almost like the perfect combination of both if you were to blend those two together. Again, you will see that I avoided the “too much” look and stuck with thick bangles and nail colour.

Remember, as long as the outfit ties together – you’re safe!

How To Wear Mustard

October 11th, 2011

Ew… the colour mustard, right? Now hold off on the judgement department for a bit because there are amazing ways to implement it into your wardrobe. Honestly, I think some of the best online colleges should provide a “How To Wear Odd Colours” courses because some people just really don’t know how to do this. Need I say… Lady Gaga! I’m just kidding – but seriously, I don’t like the way she dresses. I am all for being unique, but really… raw meat, solar panels and Kermit the frog?!  Not my idea of a fashionista and as you guys know, I am all for being unique and your own when it comes to your wardrobe!

I personally love mustard. Yummy in my tummy! However, the colour mustard is not the same as the mustard you eat… but it can be just as yummy! Mustard isn’t bright, eccentric yellow, but more so when mustard dries – it has that burnt yellow tinge? Okay… that didn’t sound appealing but I swear that the colour mustard can really look great in an outfit.

The best way to avoid looking like Big Bird is to implement mustard into your outfit in small doses, meaning not head to toe. A belt, jewelry and clothing with hints of this colour are great options. Think contrast. Mustard is going to look best with a colour that is going to make it pop, such as a navy blue as opposed to a white.

Since it is easier to understand with a visual, I have created some looks below that have successfully implemented the colour mustard!

The first is a casual-business attire, with mustard being the main colour choice. Although the outfit is based around this colour, with the right amount and perfect accessories, it works!

Now on the flip side of things, I wanted to show you how mustard can work in small doses.  Here is a casual outfit with hints of mustard. If you look closely, you will see the brown on the mustard belt works well with the brown dots on the mustard scarf as well as the mustard/gold metal on the boots. As long as the outfit can “tie” together – then it will work!
